Even if Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) were to run as a third party candidate, which most analysts believe would hurt the Biden campaign, a new Monmouth University poll indicates that former President Donald Trump would be easily defeated by President Joe Biden in a 2024 rematch of the 2020 presidential election.

Only 40% of voters in the 910-person national survey who took part said they would support Trump, compared to 47% who said they would definitely or probably support Biden.

Surprisingly, Biden's lead over Trump would only be marginally reduced by a potential unity ticket consisting of Manchin and former Utah governor Jon Huntsman (R). Biden would still hold a 40%-34% advantage over Trump.

Half of voters said they would "definitely" not support Trump in 2024, and 63% of respondents claimed to have a negative opinion of the president.

Just a few days prior to the Monmouth poll, Trump declared that he would probably soon be indicted for the third time this year, this time on charges related to his participation in the Capitol riot on January 6, which occurred after his previous loss to Biden.

The overwhelming favorite to win the Republican presidential nomination is still Trump. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is Trump's closest rival, with a nearly 33-point advantage in the RealClearPolitics polling average of national primary voters. Trump has a 24 point and a 22 point lead, respectively, in the first two primary races in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) suggested yesterday during an appearance on Fox News that the numerous legal troubles Trump is currently facing might be a result of Democrats wanting to see him leading the GOP in 2024.

Kennedy asserted that President Biden wanted President Trump to be his opponent because he believed Trump was the only person he could defeat given his polling results, which are right up there with Bud Light. Because President Biden wants President Trump to be the nominee, "I believe the Justice Department will do pretty much whatever, at the senior levels, they can to ensure that he is the nominee."
