Longtime supporters of Republican presidential candidate and governor of Florida Ron DeSantis (R) were unrelenting in their criticism of the remarks DeSantis made in a recent interview suggesting he'd consider Democrat and conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for a job.
DeSantis stated that although he wouldn't pick Kennedy as his running mate, he might think about "siccing" him on the Food and Drug Administration or the Centers for Disease Control in an interview with OutKick's Clay Travis.
"On Fauci, the corruption, and the health bureaucracies, I completely agree with him. Additionally, I believe he has said some other things that I concur with. DeSantis continued, "But at the end of the day, you know, he's more liberal, so in that regard, it's like, okay, if you're president, sic him on the FDA. If he agreed to serve, or put him on the CDC.

But if he's opposed to our position on 70% of the issues, you know, that just creates a problem in terms of being Veep, he continued.
The complimentary remarks made about the Democratic candidate angered many conservative media figures who had been excited about DeSantis's candidacy.
Charles C.W. Cooke of the National Review, who disproved rumors about how the DeSantis administration handled the pandemic, tweeted that it was "absolutely insane" for DeSantis to mention RFK Jr. alongside the FDA or CDC, let alone as a prospective appointee to do anything involving medicine.
"RFK Jr. is a kook who wouldn't change anything. (The complete response is worse than this clip)," he continued.
Guy Benson of Fox News responded to the suggestion more succinctly by tweeting a quote from the video along with the words "Nope."
The Washington Free Beacon's Aaron Sibarium stated, "Playing footsie with cranks who hate modern medicine and would slow-walk vaccine development in a future pandemic is far and away the worst decision DeSantis has made."
DeSantis's supporter Varad Mehta wrote in a column that DeSantis "would've had the intelligence and basic political savvy and instincts not to get within a parsec of RFK, Jr. before 2023. No amount of staff turnover and campaign reorganizations can make up for the candidate's egregious own goals.

Mehta noted in a subsequent tweet that "you can tell from the reaction that Ron DeSantis' comments re: RFK, Jr. is the first time that his most ardent supporters on Twitter have been truly upset with something he's done or said."
DeSantis' opposition to onerous Covid-19 vaccine mandates during the pandemic helped him gain national notoriety, but in recent days, his campaign has been playing nice with anti-vaccine sentiment.
The DeSantis campaign's "War Room" account highlighted the incident last month when an Iowa voter claimed that the Covid vaccines were killing people, and Trump responded by praising its advantages.
