Khalid Kamau, the mayor of South Fulton, Georgia, was detained and charged with first-degree burglary and criminal trespass after going into a house he claims he believed was deserted.
According to records, Kamau was arrested on Saturday and booked into the Fulton County Jail. He was later freed after posting a $11,000 bond.
According to the police report, which Channel 2 Action News obtained, police were called by a homeowner just before 7 a.m. on Saturday after his phone notified him that someone was on the property where his lake house was located.
When the owner arrived at his lake house and noticed the person inside, he cautiously approached. The owner told the suspect to remain where he was after he left the lake house.
Do you know who I am, what the f**k? The owner was on the phone with the dispatcher when the suspect allegedly said, "I'm the Mayor, and I'll wait for my police to get here and see what happens then," according to the police report.
According to the report, Kamau claimed he was going to the dog park when he decided to take a look at the house because it was his ideal house to buy.
To quote Kamau to Fox 5 Atlanta, "I just wanted to see the house." I sincerely regret offending the owners. It seemed abandoned to me.

At the time of his release from custody, Kamau said, "I do want to thank South Fulton Police and the staff and officers at Rice Street for courteous and professional service throughout the day today.

We are unable to offer any additional information at this time because the investigation is still ongoing.
