The expected indictment of former President Donald J. Trump for contesting the results of the 2020 election appears to be getting closer thanks to Special Counsel Jack Smith.

Jack Smith's office contacted Georgia Governor Brian Kemp about the ongoing investigation into former President Donald Trump and his allies' efforts to legally challenge the results of the 2020 election.

After Trump claimed on TRUTH Social that he had received a letter from Smith informing him that he was the target of a grand jury investigation pertaining to the events of January 6, The Washington Post was the first to confirm that Smith's office contacted Kemp.

Smith's actions imply that his investigation and those being conducted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis may intersect. Willis has been investigating whether Trump and his allies broke any state laws while trying to overturn his narrow defeat to current President Biden in Georgia since the beginning of 2021.

Soon after Trump, in January 2021, told Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger that he could help him "find" the votes needed to overturn his electoral defeat in the state, Willis launched her investigation.

Trump's request to have the special grand jury report suppressed was denied by the Georgia Supreme Court last week, and Willis has suggested that any charges could be brought by September 1.

The Post previously reported that investigators from Smith's office spoke with Raffensperger in Atlanta last month.

In the meantime, Kemp ultimately recognized Biden's victory in Georgia following the 2020 presidential election, despite his earlier support for Trump.

Trump supported Kemp's opponent in the 2022 primary, former Georgia senator David Perdue (R). In spite of this, Kemp won the nomination and the general election. As part of her investigation, Willis's investigators also questioned Kemp last year, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

CNN reported that as part of the Department of Justice's investigation into Trump, Smith's office recently contacted former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey.

Donald Trump vented on Truth Social this week after learning that Special Counsel Jack Smith intended to file charges against him for his alleged involvement in the riots on January 6.

For the first time in American history, lawyers and the legal system itself are under attack, continued Trump.all a gift from corrupt politicians Joe Biden, Merrick Garland, and mentally unstable prosecutor Jack Smith!"

In 2000, 2004, and 2016, the Democratic Party ran candidates in the presidential contests. Despite the fact that their false accusations sparked riots following Trump's legitimate election in 2016, their constitutionally protected actions did not lead to a criminal indictment.
