In response to the escalating migrant problem in New York and the United States, the city's mayor has taken legal action by filing a $700 million lawsuit against more than twenty charter bus operators.

Thursday afternoon saw Mayor Eric Adams taking to social media to share some exciting news: In a recent post on X, Adams emphasized the ongoing significance of New York City in addressing the issue of asylum seekers. "However, we cannot shoulder the expenses on our own -- and we are determined to hold accountable those who are involved in @GovAbbott's plan and have disregarded our state's laws."

When questioned about the 17 charter bus companies that he alleges transported migrants to New York without paying for their medical costs, Adams stated that his administration is taking legal action against them to recover the funds. Approximately 33,000 migrants have been transported to the city via charter buses since the spring of 2022.

In the film, Adams expresses concern over what he refers to as a "humanitarian crisis." He suggests that there may be collaboration between the bus companies and Gov. Greg Abbott, with the intention of putting strain on New York's social services system. According to him, the government is looking to recover the expenses it incurred for providing medical treatment to migrants in the past two years.

The DOJ had filed a lawsuit against Texas the previous day regarding a controversial measure that grants police the authority to detain and incarcerate undocumented immigrants and subsequently enforce their deportation. The bill being discussed contains similar provisions that pose problems.

Prior to the implementation of Senate Bill 4 in Texas, Governor Abbott received a letter from the DOJ, warning of potential legal action. On December 18th, Abbott signed it into law, and it will take effect in March.

Regarding the immigration issue, Abbott strongly criticized both the Department of Justice and President Joe Biden. Abbott pointed out in another tweet that the current border issue in American towns could have been avoided if Biden had enforced federal immigration law.

In December, civil rights groups filed separate legal challenges against the measure. The federal court in Austin received this case shortly after Abbott had signed the bill.

Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora, on the other hand, stated that state authorities had notified him about his city receiving busloads of immigrants en route to New York from the southern border. This diversion is just the most recent action taken by mayors in Chicago and New York City to restrict the influx of immigrants from the south.
