These documents are part of a 2015 lawsuit filed by Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre, which mentions Clinton more than 50 times. It is speculated that these references are connected to Giuffre's efforts to compel the ex-president to testify against Epstein and his alleged accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.
The ABC report also suggests that some of the references to Clinton may involve joint endeavors by Maxwell and Giuffre to press Epstein for information in 2016, following his repeated invocations of the Fifth Amendment during a deposition in the same lawsuit. U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska ruled earlier this month that there was no legal justification for continuing to conceal the ex-president's name and the names of over 150 other individuals mentioned in the records. As a result, Preska ordered the unsealing of the documents to begin after January 1.
