In a statement that was published on the website of the National Rifle Association (NRA), Mr. LaPierre is cited as saying, "With pride in all that we have accomplished, I am announcing my resignation from the NRA."

The fire of my zeal for our cause is as strong as it has ever been.
As the procedures in a corruption case that was filed against the National Rifle Association (NRA), Mr. LaPierre, and other NRA leaders are scheduled to commence the next week, he has decided to retire. Mr. LaPierre's resignation will become effective on the 31st of January.
